Everyday Honey by the Savannah Bee Company will sweeten up your day and your new year! The Savannah Bee buzzed onto my table and we can’t wait for you to try it! Ted Dennard, the beekeeper and founder of the Savannah Bee Company comes from Savannah Georgia and has been making honey since he was 12 years old. He has traveled the world learning the art and technique of beekeeper, extracting and creating the most flavorful honeys to enjoy year round. This honey will liven up your barbeques, your tea, and even your cheese. Orange blossom, grill honey, Tupelo, Wildflower, tea honey, each flavor is unique and extraordinary. Savannah Bee Company also uses their honey to create soothing and creamy lip balms, soaps, and hand creams. They are KSA kosher certified.

Although Ted Dennard has been making honey since he was a little boy, the Savannah Bee Company was only started in 1998. Ted was pouring his honey into tiny tins and giving them as gifts to friends and family. When he started selling his home-extracted Tupelo honey around town in 1998, people loved the purity and richness, and the word spread quickly. “I was bottling honey in the kitchen and keeping bees on the roof,” he recalls. When more Savannah stores wanted to sell his honey, he moved the operation to his garage. The little business continued growing, until he was forced to ask himself the ultimate question: To bee or not to bee? 2010 finds Ted operating a 40,000 square foot warehouse on Wilmington Island, a bridge’s distance from the City of Savannah. Savannah Bee operates two retail stores, bottles two distinct lines of world-class honeys, and manufactures a luxury beeswax-based body care line. It is available at http://www.savannahbee.com/ in all varieties and at many specialty and gourmet shops. GKC loves it and can’t wait for the lucky winner to tell us how much they love it too.

The best part…Rosh Hashanah is coming and everyone will surely love it on those round challahs!

Each one-of-a-kind plate, designed and created by Gail Hochman is great to look at and it’s fun to try and figure out where each piece, the cake top and base, came from. She started the business after numerous friends asked if they could purchase her specialty plates. Gail creates the cake plates by finding magnificent plates and interesting and often unusual items to use as the bases. The results are Kookie Kake Plates, an artistic table, and a great way to show off any cake.

Serious yum! Celebrities adore it and so will you. Allie’s Edibles are decadent, smooth, rich, and sinfully delicious chocolate creations in amazing combinations, like chocolate-covered butter nut toffee, chocolate peanut butter bars, chocolate-covered marshmallow bars, pretzel and toffee bark, caramel creations, and so many more. I can’t decide which is my favorite and I tasted them all (how lucky is that?).

Alison Gerlach, a passionate amateur chef created Allies’ Edibles. While working in Europe, she fell in love with European chocolates and artisan candies. She began experimenting with blends and developed her own chocolate recipes. At holidays her chocolates became the much-anticipated gifts from friends who encouraged her to start her own business. What’s her secret to perfect chocolate? Alison says that one of the things that makes Allie’s Edibles so addictive is that she starts with exceptional quality ingredients and combines simple and classic flavors.

The chocolates and new crispy rice treats, in all the amazing flavors and combinations, come individually wrapped in crave-worthy combos. They are hand-made, hand-cut, and hand-packed. Allie’s Edibles even customizes packaging so you can add your own logos, photos, or unique messages or names to the wrapping for birthdays, holidays, bat mitzvahs, weddings, or whatever cool event you are making.

Submit to win a customized (photo and personal message too) 18-piece Allie’s Chocolate Favorites Gift Pack, but don’t forget to also get some at www.alliesedibles.com $2 a piece, $32.50 per pound

Every once in awhile I find a cookbook that is both engaging enough to read like a book and inviting enough to try some of the recipes. The pages and recipes from “Chocolate A Love Story, 65 Chocolate Dessert Recipes from Max Brenner’s Private Collection” by Max Brenner (artwork avant-garde and amazing by Yonatan Factor) are so mouth-watering that I don’t know which one I like the most or how to make it all without gaining too much weight. Nostalgic dark chocolate cheese crumb cake, Spy-thriller chocolate Black Forest Cake, Heaven-on-earth cocoa tarte tatin… are you drooling yet? Not only does GKC have a SIGNED COPY of Chocolate A Love Story but we will also give you a sneak peak at a recipe in our upcoming Shavuot section next week.

Max Brenner is the famous “Israeli Bald Man” who is a revolutionary in the world of chocolate. For Max, chocolate is associated with different aspects of life and a symbol of contradictory emotions. His quest for passion, romance, and meaning has inspired highly imaginative chocolate recipes and treats. He opened his first tiny chocolate workshop in 1996 where he chatted with customers while mixing and tempering chocolate in an open space. The intimate stories shared in this workshop became the spark for his chocolate creations. Today he is known around the world for his innovative chocolate creations, signature chocolate pizza (the recipe is in the book!), and, let’s not forget, his hug mug hot cocoa (designed to keep your hands warm while drinking rich warm cocoa).

To purchase the book or to try his chocolates (make sure to check and purchase the luscious selections that have the hecksher from Bet Shemesh), go to www.maxbrenner.com or visit his stores nationwide, in Israel, or in Australia.

Delicious and easy new recipes, full of flavor and color. In her new book, Estee Kafra uses her unique flair to create easy recipes from ingredients that most of us already have in our panty. The photographs are beautiful and inspired us to try many of her recipes. It is not surprising that Estee was a professional photographer before she became the Food Editor of Binah Magazine. GKC made the Miami Ribs, Sesame Salmon, Breaded Salmon Skewers, Chickpea and Couscous Salad, Green Bean Salad and the Spicy Pumpkin Cake. Every recipe impressed us, not to mention our families (a tough crowd!) and our guests. We spoke to Estee Kafra about her book, “I am honored and excited that so many have responded to my new book with such enthusiasm. I hope that you, too, enjoy the recipes and get inspired to start cooking with color! I like to make the eggplant fries often, and the pomegranate pie on the cover has been a huge success. The granola is really superb and accompanies any of those bright, delicious fruits that are just begging to be eaten!”

They use only high quality flavors which are custom made to their regimented specifications. All of the lollipops are hand shaped and all of the candies with designs are hand constructed, stretched and cut.

If you are ever in NYC, go watch them and sample a piece. They make candy in the store Tuesday through Sunday at 380 Broome St. NY.NY 10013. Order some today at 212 966 2599 or visit Papabubble.com

Some history on Papabubble:

Papabubble is a custom-made and artisanal candy shop that was started in Barcelona by two Australians, Nigel Chouri and Chris King. Nigel learned the craft of candy making from a Danish man in Australia who had learned from another candy maker, who had learned from another, in a long line of candy makers reaching back to the origins of the style of candy that they make in northern Europe.

Note on their Hecksher: They are kosher certified by KC International Kosher Council, Rabbi Schwarcz. Although this hecksher approves establishments that are open on the Sabbath we had the product checked out to ensure the kashrus. According to Rabbi Pinchas Chatzinoff of Cedarhurst, NY, this product’s hecksher is recommended.

Perfect for the upcoming Jewish Holidays! An assortment of locally harvested honey including clover, wildflower and creamed honeys.

Don Sausser Apiaries is one of the oldest and best known of New York honey brands originating on Long Island over twenty years ago! Don Sausser Apiaries began by providing residents and visitors of the Hamptons with a taste of the best raw honey from Long Island. Now their products can be found in Dean and Deluca and Citarella Market in NYC, Wild By Nature and many local farm stands and gourmet shops.

Raw and local honey is:

  • Better tasting. Since Don Sausser Brands aren’t pasteurized or processed the honey retains all of its natural flavors and tastes. Like regional coffees, olive oils, or teas; its color, aroma, texture and taste are as unique as its region and floral source.
  • Better for you. This honey retains many of the nutritional benefits of the regional vegetation and is known to reduce symptoms of allergies and local colds.
  • Better for the planet. This honey is bottled and stored LOCALLY and they have mastered the art of reducing the amount of energy required to bring honey from the hive to your table.
  • Did You Know…That Honey is as old as written history?

Honey is an organic, natural sugar alternative with no additives that is easy on the stomach, adapts to all cooking processes, and has an indefinite shelf-life. In many cultures, honey has associations that go far beyond its use as a food. In language and literature, religion and folk belief, honey is frequently a symbol or talisman for sweetness of every kind. It has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs and is the only substance known to man that never spoils.
